What is the CareDogs befriending service?

Our service offers:

  • A local safeguarding trained and DBS checked volunteer and their dog who will walk with you 1-2 hours a week

  • Access to our events to encourage community connections

If you sign up, you will:

  • Meet a CareDogs befriender and their canine friend

  • Increase your physical mobility with a weekly walk

You are eligible for our service if you:

  • Are over 55

  • Like dogs but don’t have one of your own

  • Are physically able and looking to get out and walk more

  • Live in our current operating boroughs of South London: Croydon, Bromley, Lewisham, Southwark or Lambeth

The CareDogs’ Befriending Service Process

01.

Initial chat

We welcome you into our community and get to know you and your lifestyle better.

02.

Pairing with a volunteer and their dog

We match you with your own CareDogs companion, a trained, friendly volunteer – and their dog – who you can get to know over your first dog walk together.

03.

Long-term partnership & support

Your CareDogs companion, and their dog, will visit you weekly at a scheduled time to go on a dog walk on a long-term basis. And, as part of the CareDogs community, you’ll also be invited to our events in your local area.
