What Is The Big CareDogs Challenge?

This April, we are walking 1,000 miles, virtually travelling the length of Great Britain from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

Every mile logged in The Big Team Challenge app moves us further north. Walk your dog. Walk to work. Walk with friends. It all counts.

Why We’re Doing This

Loneliness affects over 1.4 million older people in the UK. Through CareDogs, almost 400 people have already benefited from our services - through human and canine companionship.

By taking part and fundraising, you help us:

  • Deliver more group walks

  • Train and support volunteers

  • Cover safeguarding and DBS checks

  • Keep sessions inclusive and accessible

  • Reach more isolated adults

Every mile logged helps fund real, local impact.

Our £2,500 Team Goal

We are aiming to raise £2,500 together.

If we hit that target, every participant will receive an exclusive The Big CareDogs Challenge 2026 T-shirt!

How the challenge works

FAQs

  • The Big CareDogs Challenge is a virtual walking challenge where we aim to travel 1,000 miles together, the length of Great Britain from Land’s End to John O’Groats. The challenge runs from 1st–30th April 2026.

  • Register online, download the Big Team Challenge app from your app store, enter the codes provided, and start logging your miles from 1 April. You can sync most fitness apps or log your miles manually. Every mile contributes to our collective 1,000-mile goal.

  • Anyone can take part. All fitness levels are welcome. You can walk, use a wheelchair, use a mobility aid, or log distance in a way that works for you. Every mile counts towards our shared total.

Children are welcome to take part, but anyone under 18 must have parental or guardian consent and be appropriately supervised.

  • No. You can walk solo, with friends or family, or with your dog. Everyone is welcome.

  • The registration fee is £10 per person. This secures your place in the challenge. Entry fees are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled by CareDogs.

  • We ask each participant to aim to raise at least £100 in sponsorship.

There is no minimum fundraising requirement, but every pound raised makes a real difference.

Together, we’re aiming to raise £2,500 to support CareDogs’ work tackling loneliness and social isolation.

  • If we reach our overall £2,500 fundraising target, every registered participant will receive a limited-edition The Big CareDogs Challenge T-shirt as a thank you.

  • You can still take part. Join at any point during April and start logging your miles from the day you register.

  • Where does the money go?

All funds raised through The Big CareDogs Challenge support CareDogs’ work tackling loneliness and social isolation. The money helps support the delivery of our befriending service for older people and our accessible, inclusive community walks.
